First I want to personally thank Peter the Blacksmith who helped me out with info, suggestions and even diagrams. I'm a first time motorcycle owner and I picked up a '86 LS650 for less than $800.
Anyway, on to my question. I performed the whitespacer modification (but couldn't locate the idle mixture screw). I also substituted a Harley Sportster muffler. Now my Savage seems to have WAY more power than before. When I gun it (only after 15 minutes of warm-up) I get slippage in almost all 4 gears. With all the stock stuff I only used to experience slippage a tiny bit in 4th. What is causing this and how do I fix it?
From previous posts it looks like the clutch and the oil. Is this really my problem? I have very little experience and would love to get some specific recommendations as to oils or any other suggestions.
When I downshift I get a lot of throaty backfires...I like it, but is it bad for the engine?
Thanks in advance,
-Peter
